Report to the People of God

Archdiocese of Los Angeles Reports

In 2003, we successfully argued in the courts that the Archdiocese of Los Angeles be required to be responsible to the people of Los Angeles.  As a result, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles was required to release the names and personnel files of priests who had been accused of sexual abuse while working in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.  Our lawsuits resulted in a historical, $660 million settlement paid by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to approximately 500 victims who were sexually abused by Los Angeles area Catholic Priests.

In the following, we provide you with copies of the original Archdiocese of Los Angeles Report to the People of God, the Addendum to the Report to the People of God, and the, hard to find, Final Addendum to the Report to the People of God.

Report to the People of God

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles Report to the People of God was published in 2003.  The report is a result of internal studies performed by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as required by the Los Angeles Superior Court.  The Report to the People of God can be found in its entirety here:

Addendum to the Report to the People of God

A year after the Report to the People of God, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles published a 155 page Addendum to the report.  The Addendum was referred to as an “update” to the original report in three sections.  Section one of the Addendum referenced “Safeguard” programs initiated by the RCALA.  Section two listed an additional 26 priests with allegations of sexual abuse, including brief history for each priest.  Section three addressed the deluge of civil lawsuits that were being waged against the church at the time.  The Addendum to the Report to the People of God can be found in its entirety here:

Final Addendum to the Report to the People of God

In 2013, the Final Addendum to the Report to the People of God was quietly published on the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ website.  The document, titled Final Addendum, was oddly dated 2008, even though it was not made public until 2013.  The Final Addendum listed nearly 50 more priests by name who had been accused of sexual abuse.  The Final Addendum has since disappeared from the RCALA website.  The Final Addendum to the Report to the People of God can be found in its entirety here:
