Swimming Coach Pleads to Sexually Assaulting 7-Year-Old Girl

A swimming coach was sentenced today to six years in state prison after pleading no contest to sexually molesting a girl at a Commerce aquatic center, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Steven Matthew Garcia, 28, entered his plea to one felony count of lewd act upon a child and one misdemeanor count of indecent exposure. He also was ordered to register as a lifetime sex offender.

Deputy District Attorney Emily Spear of the Sex Crimes Division prosecuted the case.

Garcia sexually molested a 7-year-old girl by fondling her in an employee lounge at the City of Commerce aquatic center.  He then threatened the victim, ordering her not to tell anyone. The complaint said the sexual assault occurred between October 2016 and January 2017.

Case BA453670 was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau.  The No Contest Plea was submitted on June 23, 2017.
